Marriott has finally set foot in Formentera. Sabàtic Formentera just opened as the first Autograph Collection hotel on the island, and it comes with a luxury stamp. According to Hosteltur, the property has 34 accommodation units right on the beachfront.
The project is led by All Iron, with design by Mipmarí Arquitectura and WIT Architects. Highlights include a rooftop pool, a beach club, and CasaBlu, a restaurant designed by Elena Lunardini. Wellness is covered: spa, 24 hour gym, yoga, paddle surfing, and cycling routes.
Formentera had been holding out against big chains. With this opening, Marriott enters with a premium product and a brand that targets discerning travelers. My take: the island needs high end supply to lengthen the season, and Autograph Collection brings a quality seal without losing the local vibe. Let's see if this move pushes other majors to come in.
