Riu Hotels launches its 2027-2030 sustainability plan
Riu has just closed the first phase of Proudly Committed and already has the next one on the table. Naomi Riu announced a new sustainability plan for 2027-2030, and what catches my eye is not the timeline but how they plan to get there: with a sustainability committee created in 2024 and the involvement of every department. Seriously, getting CSR out of the comms department and into operations is the only way.
According to Hosteltur, the response to the hurricane in Jamaica, helping employees and rebuilding, shows that a local approach works. They invest in children and biodiversity, now coordinated from each destination. This ownership model can make a real difference against generic talk. I think it’s a smart move: when every department feels ownership, results show. Let’s see if competitors react.
