Carolina Quetglas hands over the reins at the Balearic Hotel Chains Association

Carolina Quetglas, currently executive president and co-CEO of Summum Hotel Group, is stepping down as president of the Balearic Hotel Chains Association and handing the baton to Miguel Miralles. Hosteltur broke the news and it confirms a pattern that keeps repeating across Spanish hotel associations, short terms and internal handovers to avoid losing momentum. Quetglas arrived unanimously and leaves with the structure firmly in place.

The useful question is not who sits in the chair, but what agenda Miralles inherits. The ACH brings together chains with very different interests, from family groups with three hotels to operators present across several islands, and that diversity sets the limit on what can be pushed with a single voice. Issues like regulatory pressure in the Balearics, energy costs and new tourism taxes will keep dominating the meetings.

My take is that the handover comes at a good time. Miralles has a window to push the least glamorous and most profitable side of the trade, the one tied to shared data, distribution and team training. If the ACH limits itself to lobbying and does not build tools its members actually use, the role loses weight every year. The opportunity is right there, turning the association into something chains reach for daily, not only when a regulation needs fighting.
