The war for hospitality talent isn't won with salaries alone. Hosbec knows that, which is why it's launching a discount card for industry workers this summer, as its executive director Maite García told Hosteltur. The idea: employees at member hotels get perks on travel, accommodation and experiences.

The initiative, developed with hotel HR departments, aims to boost a sense of belonging and make a career in hospitality more attractive. Sounds good. Because if the waiter or the front desk clerk can actually try the product they sell, they understand it better and sell it with more conviction.

In my view, the idea is solid on paper, but watch out: if discounts are token or exclude weekends and peak season, workers will feel more fooled than valued. Hosbec has a chance to set a standard. Let's hope they don't blow it.
