Dubai lets you cross the border in 12 seconds with your phone

Dubai's General Directorate of Identity has rolled out Click and Travel, a system that gets the border check done in 12 to 15 seconds straight from your phone. Preferente reported it, and the number says plenty: the formality stops being a physical stop and becomes a digital step you take before landing.

What interests me isn't the timer. It's what it means for anyone selling arrivals into Dubai. An airport that greets you in 12 seconds sells a destination with less friction, and that friction has quietly been the argument behind many routes into the Middle East for years. Airlines flying there gain a clean-entry story. OTAs gain one more reason to push a Dubai stopover before Asia or Africa.

Now the annoying bit. If the standard sticks, the European border is left watching. Schengen drags queues, summer meltdowns and biometric systems that move late, and every passenger who compares remembers that gap. The professional here needs to push for digital identity and preclearance to move at the same pace as the airport competitiveness talk. The customer has already seen what's possible.
