Formentera finally has a Marriott hotel. Sabàtic Formentera Autograph Collection, developed by All Iron, has just opened as the first premium collection property from Marriott on the island, according to Hosteltur. The property features 34 units on the beachfront: 27 studios around 23 sqm and seven suites of 40 sqm. A clear bet on boutique luxury in a destination that had resisted big chains until now.
What's interesting here is the positioning play. Autograph Collection is not just a branding umbrella: each hotel keeps its own identity, and that fits Formentera's spirit. All Iron understood that entering the island required a hotel with local soul, not a corporate standard. By joining Marriott, they gain commercial traction without losing character.
My take: smart move. Formentera needed a quality hotel push without losing its essence. With 34 keys, it keeps a human scale. I hope to see more projects like this in mature destinations that want to grow without overcrowding.
