United Aviation Stellair acquires Mallorcair

United Aviation Services, through its Stellair division, has acquired Mallorcair, one of the most seasoned independent ground handling and FBO operators at Palma airport. Founded in 1991, the Balearic company had been serving airlines and business aviation at the main gateway to the Balearic Islands for decades, according to Preferente.

The purchase price has not been disclosed, but the move speaks volumes. Stellair already manages much of the ground handling at secondary Spanish airports, and this acquisition gives it more muscle in a destination that handles millions of tourists every summer. In other words, ground handling in the Balearics keeps consolidating.

My take: a group consolidating ground services in such a seasonal hub makes industrial sense, and it also opens up possibilities. Stellair can optimize costs, standardize processes, and offer more competitive rates to tour operators and airlines year-round. Hotels and agencies, who ultimately foot the bill for transferring their clients, could benefit from a more stable and predictable operation.

During the low season, centralized management avoids inefficiencies and ensures no flight is left unsupported. It is the game of travel economies of scale, and we need to keep a close eye on the play to see who benefits the most.
