The money your hotel loses on calls nobody picks up
Revinate has made 308 mystery calls to luxury and upscale hotels for its 2026 Secret Shopped Call Report. The findings, discussed in an episode of the Hospitality Net podcast, point to something many managers suspect but prefer not to look at: there is money hiding in the phone.
The picture shows where AI fits without drama. Routine queries such as spa hours, availability, pet policy or hotel services can be automated. Where the human agent still wins is in high value bookings, special requests and moments when the guest truly needs to be heard. And that is the detail that bugs me: many hotels have their best people putting out routine fires instead of closing sales.
In my view, the opportunity is not to buy AI because it is trendy. It is to measure how many calls come in, how many are missed and what each one is worth. If your team spends two hours a day on repeated questions, there is a budget you are already paying and not using. Start by recording and classifying your own calls for a week. The numbers will tell you more than any demo.
