FHS World awards a minister and an airline president

The Future Hospitality Summit World 2026 has named its leadership award winners. UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri takes the FHS Leadership Award. Emirates President Sir Tim Clark receives the Lifetime Achievement Award. Hospitality Net reports it in its event coverage.

Both names make sense. Bin Touq Al Marri has been one of the voices pushing the country's tourism diversification agenda, with ambitious visitor targets and sector GDP goals. Clark has spent decades turning Emirates into an airline that competes on routes others avoid, and that moves traveller flows ending up in hotels and destinations across half the world.

That said, the pick rubs me the wrong way. Awarding a minister and an airline executive at a hospitality summit leaves out the link that truly takes the operational hit, the independent hotelier and the mid-size resort manager. Look, I am not saying the winners don't deserve it. I am saying the industry narrative keeps rewarding those with the resources to sit at the table where the sector's future gets decided. Everyone else watches from the stands.
