CoolRooms Lands in Portugal with Palacio Duarte
CoolRooms Hotels is making its international move. According to Hosteltur, the chain will open Palacio Duarte this autumn 2026, its first hotel in Portugal. It's a five-star property in the historic heart of Porto, between Belomonte and Comércio do Porto streets. The building, a palace dating back to the 15th century, was once the home of royal physician João da Paz.
My take: Porto is a smart entry point for CoolRooms. The city attracts high-spending tourists and has a vibrant boutique hotel scene. Reviving a historic palace gives them an authentic luxury narrative that fits their brand. They also have a second project in Lisbon, the Palacio do Patriarcado, already lined up.
Now they'll face stiff competition from the likes of InterContinental and Yeatman, but a well-done heritage restoration always stands out.
