1OAM turns an Athens building into a live-and-work hybrid
1OAM is the name of the project Eva Papadaki has built in the Gazi district of Athens, and she describes it as a place where you can work, create, stay, eat, discover an object or take a bath. Wallpaper reports this in an interview with the founder, who insists people should not walk in thinking only about design, but feel something first.
- Work and creation share a roof with accommodation.
- Food and bathing are part of the journey, not an add-on.
- The design object is discovered, touched, bought.
In my view, this type of space is the natural answer to a traveller who no longer separates trip from life. The traditional hotel loses ground when the guest spends more hours working than sleeping, and Papadaki has understood that before many European operators. It is not a lobby with wifi, it is a building designed to keep you inside. For the industry, it opens a clear door, rethink idle square metres and turn them into revenue by use, not just by night.
