## Article

The **Spain Living Lab** project has just wrapped up its initial phase with a milestone: **450 Living Labs** deployed nationwide to digitalize tourism. The initiative, driven by Canarias Living Lab and backed by [Next Generation EU](https://www.hosteltur.com/177176_spain-living-lab-un-ecosistema-de-innovacion-turistica-con-proyeccion-de-futuro.html) funds, is not just theory. Out of those 450 labs, **266 are Meta Labs** focused on artificial intelligence and virtual reality, and **184 are Business Labs** aimed at commercial use cases.

Collaboration with universities such as ULPGC and Universidad de La Laguna has been key to validating these technologies. This is no lab experiment: it is about testing tools that optimize everything from demand forecasting to traveler experience management. The "Final Conference" event in Gran Canaria showcased results that hotels and destinations are already beginning to see.

What comes next? This is not a full stop. The network of 450 labs lays the groundwork for a second phase where scalability and real integration into the sector will be the real test. Spanish tourism digitalization now has a serious testbed. It is up to the industry to pick up the baton.
