Summary: Pricepoint launches Rate War, a free game that measures in two minutes whether a human can beat its AI at setting room rates. The number behind it: nearly 1,100 rates a year at a 20-room hotel.

## Article

A single dollar wrong per night at a small hotel turns into more than $7,000 lost per year. That is the number Pricepoint, the AI revenue management platform for hotels, has put on the table with the launch of [Rate War](https://ratewar.ai/), a free game that challenges anyone to price 30 nights in two minutes and then compare their result against its algorithm. So far, according to the company, nobody has beaten the machine.

The mechanics are simple. The player opens the game in any browser, sees the same demand signals a pricing team would watch (events, competitor moves, forecasts), sets rates and finds out where they land against the AI and against everyone else. A new month drops every day. Repeat players learn something. Even if it is the hard way.

The number that gives context here is not the game, it is volume. A 20-room hotel with three room types, priced a year out, has roughly **1,100 rates to manage**. Pricepoint's AI does not claim to be smarter than a seasoned revenue manager. It claims never to get tired. The market does not close at six in the evening. Bookings land at 3 a.m., competitors change rates on Sunday and a cancelled flight can fill a city before breakfast. No one, not even the best team, covers every one of those decisions every night.

**Mateusz Sznir**, CEO and founder of Pricepoint, puts it this way in the release: revenue managers are some of the sharpest commercial minds in hospitality and almost nobody sees what they do. The game is, at heart, a transparency exercise. It shows the public what pricing actually costs. And it doubles as a sales pitch without a whitepaper in sight.

Worth reading with a revenue eye. At a time when OTAs squeeze on commission and brands push direct bookings, the conversation about who sets the rate and on what criteria is no longer technical, it is strategic. Tools like Rate War do not change the market. They change the conversation hoteliers have with their technology vendors, and that conversation does move contracts.

What to watch for is whether Pricepoint publishes aggregate game data. How many people play, how often they return, where humans fail and where the AI fails. That, not the algorithm's declared leadership, is what will actually validate whether the product has something to teach.
