A clear bet with a lesson for the sector. ## Article OD Hotels is making its move into tourist apartments with 22 units in Malaga's historic center, as reported by [Hosteltur](https://www.hosteltur.com/178094_od-hotels-irrumpe-en-los-apartamentos-turisticos-con-22-unidades-en-malaga.html?utm_source=rss&, utm_medium=rss&, utm_campaign=od-hotels-irrumpe-en-los-apartamentos-turisticos-con-22-unidades-en-malaga). The project, Ocean Drive Málaga, skips the classic hotel common areas: no restaurant, no bar, no shared terrace. That is exactly the point. I read this as a smart bet. Malaga is no longer just a base for day trips. More travelers want a well-located apartment, a digital key and zero fuss. Cutting the restaurant and bar lowers operating costs and gives the unit economics a better chance. The trade-off? OD is targeting a specific guest, the one who doesn't need the hotel to feel like they are in a hotel. It is a narrower slice of demand, but a fast-growing one. OD is aiming not at the big resorts, but at the urban empty spot that experience-seeking travelers are looking for. If this works, I would not rule out the model being repeated in other cities. ## Sources - Hosteltur: https://www.hosteltur.com/178094_od-hotels-irrumpe-en-los-apartamentos-turisticos-con-22-unidades-en-malaga.html?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=od-hotels-irrumpe-en-los-apartamentos-turisticos-con-22-unidades-en-malaga ## Citation OD Hotels enters tourist apartments with 22 units in Malaga.
