Self-belief, he says, was the engine. ## Article A seasoned hospitality professional has published a short, rather honest reflection on [Hospitality Net](https://www.hospitalitynet.org/opinion/4134847/the-bridge) about his own career path. He started running teams young, with more drive than clean numbers, and ended up taking the controller role at a hotel. In between, a lesson that came neither from a master's degree nor a course, but from having to square revenue and costs with the operation breathing down his neck. The piece carries no figures and no names. It is personal. What the author stands behind, and where I agree, is that self-belief pushed him over the line. I would add something of my own: in a hotel, revenue management and cost control have stopped being closed clubs. A director of rooms today who does not understand ADR, pickup or cost per occupied room is limping. And the other way round, a controller who never sets foot at reception at 8am gets it wrong too. The useful read for anyone standing at that crossroads is simple. You cross the bridge by asking for help, getting into the data tools and not being afraid to admit you did not know something yesterday. Nobody arrives trained, but the one who steps up does. ## Sources - Hospitality Net: https://www.hospitalitynet.org/opinion/4134847/the-bridge ## Citation The bridge from running a hotel to understanding its numbers.
