Think about what Alliants does. Guest messaging, pre-arrival requests, coordination with the hotel team. All of that lived on a layer parallel to the lock. By merging them, Dormakaba keeps check-in data, preferences and communication flows that previously only the PMS or the hotel app could see. That is the real move, not the lock.

I see a deeper shift here: hotel hardware makers are buying their way into the software layer so they do not end up as commodity suppliers. For the hotelier, the useful reading is twofold. First, the integration map moves, so contracts and data ownership need a review. Second, if access, messaging and guest experience fit into one piece, operations get simpler.
