Summary: Conversational AI opens the door to natural-language hotel search, but today's ARI infrastructure lacks the data detail needed to make it work well.

## Article

The noise that already played out with voice assistants and chatbots a few years ago is back, and this time with more substance. According to Hospitality Net, [conversational AI](https://www.hospitalitynet.org/opinion/4134343/the-battle-for-guest-interface-is-starting-again) could break OTA dominance in hotel search, because users will be able to ask in natural language what they used to translate into filters and dates.

The problem sits in the plumbing. Hotel distribution still runs on ARI (Availability, Rates, Inventory), a format built for availability and price, without the granularity a language model needs to answer "I want something quiet near the sea, good breakfast and parking". Without that detail, the assistant returns the same as a metasearch engine with more steps.

That is where the opportunity is. The hotel that enriches its inventory with real attributes (room type, services, surroundings, policies) gains an edge when the entry channel stops being the OTA and becomes the assistant. I don't see a threat, I see a shift in who owns the conversation. And that gets prepared now, not when the search engine of the day asks for it.
